Gary Moulton editor of The Journals of Lewis and
Clark, and Dr Steven Dow Beckham, Chair of the
Lewis and Clark College History Department and also
Roger Wendlick. In addition there will be a viewing
of the James Gilchrist Swan
(1818-1900) Exhibit at Aubrey Watzek
Library.

Talks by Dr. Gary Moulton, editor, the Journals of Lewis & Clark; Dr. Stephen Dow Beckham, chair, History Department, Lewis & Clark College and noted author on Lewis & Clark and Native American topics; and Roger Wendlick, author of the book-collecting memoir Shotgun on My Chest. Exhibit on James G. Swan.
Talks Location: Miller 105, next to the Aubrey Watzek Library. This is the same room we have meet at in the past. Parking is free and available in the lower lot near the theater. The event should end around 11:30. Doug Erickson will preside (dme@lclark.edu).
Swan Exhibit Location: Aubrey Watzek Library. James Gilchrist Swan (1818—1900) was an Indian agent in what is now Washington State. He was variously an oysterman, customs inspector, secretary to Congressional delegate Isaac Stevens, journalist, reservation schoolteacher, lawyer, judge, school superintendent, railroad promoter, natural historian, and ethnographer. He is known for his work collecting artifacts and for writing the first ethnography of the Makah tribal group, among whom he lived.
