Willamette Valley Regional Meeting
January 10, 1999, Benton County Museum, Philomath, OR -
Dr. Robert Holcomb, Oregon Chapter Vice-President, with assistance from Lois
Meessen and Billie Holcomb, hosted an organizational meeting for those living
in the Willamette Valley who are interested in learning more about Lewis &
Clark as the bicentennial commemoration of this historic expedition approaches.
The meeting was held on Sunday, January 10th at 2:00PM in the second floor
meeting room of the Benton County Museum. The museum is located on the
main street of Philomath, just west of Corvallis, OR.
The meeting was attended by a small group of 18 people, but interest was shown in
creating a Mid-Valley group for those unable to travel to other areas of the
state in order to attend normal Oregon Chapter meetings.
Dr. Holcomb presented a history of various Lewis and Clark organizations in Oregon
starting from the days of E.G. "Frenchy" Chuinard and leading up to the newly
formed Oregon Chapter of the Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation. Chapter
Secretary Jay Rasmussen welcomed attendees and gave a brief description of the
upcoming Spring Council Meeting of the Oregon Chapter. Oregon Chapter Board
Member Dick Hohnbaum also welcomed the attendees and provided some encouraging
words.
For the program portion of the meeting, Chapter member (and Program Chair), Mike
Carrick, provided an interesting hands-on demonstration and display of authentic
firearms and equipment of the Lewis & Clark era.
For further information on the Mid-Valley group, contact Dr. Robert Holcomb via
email
or by phone at (541) 745-5560.
Respectfully submitted,
Jay Rasmussen
Oregon Chapter Secretary
